Introduction

In this blog, we will delve deeper into the inspection of weld seams, a crucial aspect of quality assurance.

What is involved in weld seam inspection?

Weld inspections refer to various methods for checking and evaluating weld seams. During the inspection of weld seams, the joints created when joining two workpieces are checked for compliance with specified quality criteria. They must, for example, be free from cracks and other defects to be fully suitable for their intended purpose. Both destructive and non-destructive inspection methods are used to verify these aspects.

Why are weld seam inspections vital?

During welding, two objects are permanently joined together using heat. The objects can be made of carbon steel and aluminum. Connections must be produced that ensure the product meets the expected requirements over a projected lifespan. This is only possible if the weld seams adhere to quality criteria or other quality characteristics consistent with the requirements. Defects in welded joints can lead to component failure, which can have serious consequential damage. Through weld seam inspections, cracks and other defects are reliably detected in accordance with standards based on specified tolerances and evaluation groups.
